CD Inserts and back page

For the actual CD design i decided highlighting the car would link back to the characters in the music video.
For the back of the CD, the final image of the collection, this should link back to the music video.

Evaluation Question 1

I created this question in Word, and decided to upload it to Google Drive. This meant I could then post the link on here...

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When looking at all three of my media products from an audience point of view, it is clear that there are links between them.

Imagery –I used a theme throughout the products; this I call ‘classic’ which is based mainly on the car used in the music video. The main images on the website are of a classic design, coloured with sepia this links with the old style of the music video . The image I used for my digi pack uses a close up shot of the wheel of the same car in the video, although not on the car it is clear that the wheel is the same brand as the one in the video.

Colours -  I added a black and white effect to the video to link with the old classic movie type look, this also is also similar in the images on the website, I added a sepia effect to make the main image look stained and older, linking it back to the original text (music video). The CD cover had more colour to it which refers to the ending half of the video where the colour is gradually added in, I wanted to keep the classic look with the sepia coloured wooden frame and the look of the wheel, but still have links to the ending as it ends happily I wanted the audience to not associate the lack of colours with a negative themed video before they had seen it.

Text/Fonts – Using the same name of the artist, spelt the same way and using the song title throughout the three products is a more obvious link to the media types. The theme of ‘classic’ runs alongside this, on the website for example the fonts are simple and not too modern. The CD cover’s font style is different to the website, however it is a handwritten font which shows that I have not used fancy updated font generators to modernise the fashion.

Synergy is something that is features within my products as well. On the back of my CD cover there is a link to the website which contains lyrics to the song and also the music video, this promotes the websites and links the three products together.

Conclusion -

CD Cover

First attempt. I have also uploaded this onto Facebook. I have done this to create some audience feedback (if people reply) and this will help me decide on the final product.

Ancillary Task - CD Cover Design

Today I began to think about my CD design in detail. I looked at existing designs that are of the same/similar genre and this is what I found;

All of these albums are of a similar genre. When looking at the text, it is clear and simple. Also ALL of these fonts look like they are handwritten, a certain style that always goes with this genre. if I want to make sure my album cover suits the style I need to find a 'handwritten' font that is readable and not to complicated.
Another prominent feature is the picture, in ALL of them the main image is of the artist whose album it is. Jason Mraz's album has a hand drawn image but it is still representing him.

Website update

Today I did research about the layout of band/artist websites of similar genre to my music video.

The layout of this profile is very simple. With a large banner picture to attract attention straight away to the artist.

The menu is across the top and the title text/font is easy readable.

The artists name is written multiple times on one screen, this is a technique used to sink the artists name into the heads of the readers who are on the website.

An important part to the music business these days is connecting with the audience, fans and listeners via viral. It is best to have the social networking sites such as 'Twitter and Facebook' up at the top of the page so that it is easily visable to the audience.

These are both things I will consider in my website design.
